About This is War
This series explores archive images from The Great War as as a base for concept art for a game set in World War I. By compositing images from the period into a new scene and using paint over techniques, the images are able to depict a greater sense of atmosphere, action and dynamic.
This first painting depicts a lone trooper looking out at a desecrated church caused from air raids on the city.
The second scene takes an image with a stillness and adds a feeling of chaos, showing a squad of troops fleeing from explosions across a fragile landscape.
