About Survival
Matte paintings using images from Pexels and Photobash. I wanted to create some environments with a sense of survival and despair. I was influenced by some of the environments in Death Stranding, which has a distinctly Nordic feel. I found some great photos from Iceland including the crashed plane, which was perfect for the first design.
For the second environment, I wanted to explore the theme further with the survivors stumbling upon a facility occupied with an enemy faction. I started with a rough sketch to get an idea of the composition and then searched for images that would fit. Once happy with the overall design, colours and perspectives etc, I began to paint over – blending things together, adding details and atmospherics. Finally, a few effects helped add a cinematic feel to finish things off.
